In favor of old posts being locked for reply (not viewing)

If you couldn't get a bunch of credits/rating by rapid replying to the last two years of posts, wouldn't it encourage people to post actual pics?

I hate the way brand new posts are sometimes buried so fast. I once had a new post that got pushed to the 16th page in minutes. Two days later and it had a couple of replies and was basicly dead.

Locking old posts would help a little, wouldn't it? I bet most people who bring back a string of old posts aren't really reviewing the posts ... it's all about getting credits and rating without having to posts pics (god forbid!)

I know this has been much talked about before and I think it's been decided against, but I just wondered what different people thought. Would it even help? What would be the bad side of doing it?

I voted for : Do away with getting credits for any replies, only pics.

IF everyone agree's.... we will make to people only get credits for posting pics!

Maybe we can even increase the credit amount... for example... we can give 10 credits for every picture.... 0 credits for comments ! ! !

I have to say that buried posts (and old posts making a comeback because someone said thanks to someone who hasn't posted in 2 years) is quite annoying. If this will help, then I am all for it. Just a wacky idea, but I think it would be cool if credits spent on a thread (or post) you started went to you. It would reward good posters and encourage people to post good, quality pics.

Okay, but some of us will be genuinely digging deeper in the archives for pics we have missed, and either leaving comments to show our appreciation, OR to flag the thread so we don't look at it again. I don't mind NOT leaving a comment if that bothers people, BUT I would really like to see the ability to flag a post as having been read, whether we leave a comment or not. My problem ( here and at TCB ) is that I keep opening the same threads over and over again, because I don't generally comment unless I actually download at least one picture.

I agree wholeheartedly, 0 credits for comments and 10 credits for pictures. I think it would answer all legitimate complaints while ridding the site of leachers.

If they make replies not count as credit, you can still reply to show appreciation, and they'll still mark the post as read (I use that system too)
It's not that I'm against leaving comments -- that is good -- but when you have tons people replying to old posts around the same time, brand new posts are almost instantly bumbed way down the line. By making replies not count for credit, it does away with people replying like mad for credit, leaving only genuine replies and cutting down on this bumping ... see what I'm saying?

I'd still like to see the ability to mark a thread as read, without my commenting, because while there are many worthwhile threads, there are also many that do not appeal to me, and I hate seeing them over and over again.

Even if they did away with credits for commenting, which would be fine with me, there would still be a problem of volume. There are so many people and so many threads, especially in the assorted category. Yesterday, out of curiosity, I looked for one of my threads from the day before, and it on page 40. Doing away with credits for commenting will definitely help, but I don't think it will solve the problem completely.

Maybe, just maybe, another thing that would help would be to move threads into dated-bins ( sub-forums ) based on the original date, i.e., after 3 days a thread goes to the next "lower" dated-bin, after 2 weeks to the one below that, after 6 months to the archives. Still accessible, but not cluttering up the recent threads. Comments would not bump a thread out of its dated-bin, just to the top of the dated-bin. I know this would require some programming effort, maybe too much, but it would be nice.

By the way, my credit problem is not fixed, but I think I have it figured out. Seems to be a problem only when I use the satellite modem, not when I use dial-up. So my plan is, until Satan establishes some sort of elite-pay scheme, to every now and then check into a hotel with high-speed internet and do my viewing and downloading there. I don't have the same problem with TCB because I'm paying there. But when I do this hotel thing, I'll be looking at lots and lots of threads, maybe all the way back to the beginning.
